Orientation and Club presentation

On 24 we had our orientation session. It started at 9.00 and went on till 4:00. We were all seated in the RJMCEI auditorium and one after another the speakers kept reminding us that we were one of the best, but then that was before coming here. Now we will have to perform better than what we ever did in our life, to survive here, and for the more aspiring people to shine here. The orientation started with the department heads giving us some details about the things we could expect in the particular course. First year at IIM-A has all these compulsory courses: - Managerial Accounting, Finance, Marketing, HRM, Organization Behavior, Computers and the most dreaded of all WAC (will write more on it once I face it). Listening to all the distinguished professors was a great experience.

Later we had a Student body presentation and interaction with our buddy - second year student assigned to help us ease into the system. At 7:00 pm we had interaction with our mentors - professors at IIMA. Night was spent meeting with dorm seniors and this went on till 3 pm.

Well it is true that immense pressure is put on the students in the first year, but everyone out here has built a great support system to help students cope with this pressure. We know that we have someone to talk to and share our problems, be it our buddies or our mentors.

Next day started at 8 am again (no one sleeps out here). We had the club presentations totaling 33 presentations. There are clubs out here for Academic council to bike riding. You name it and the students here will have it. Everyone is supposed to be part of some club, mostly for the fun and learning; and to some extent for the CV points.
